Process planning for additive manufacturing of geometries with variable overhang angles using a robotic laser directed energy deposition system

چکیده

In the present work, a novel Laser Directed Energy Deposition (LDED) process planning methodology is proposed to build dome structure with variable overhang angles. Overhang structures different angles were built where maximum angle of 35° can be used without and compromise. The thin-wall hemispherical using developed shows deviation 2% respect diameter original CAD model data. study paves way for building high-value, lightweight thin-walled complex cylindrical-based shape (e.g., storage tanks, nozzles, combustion chambers) engineering applications.

Laser Additive Manufacturing Process Planning and Automation

This paper presents a Laser Additive Manufacturing Process Planning (LAMPP) being developed at the University of Missouri-Rolla. The off-line planning recognizes difficult-to-build features from an STL file, selects optimal part orientation and building directions based on the skeleton information of the object geometry, and optimizes the sub-process sequences for deposition and machining. Duri...

Manufacturing Process Planning for Laser Cutting Robotic Systems

the paper presents a new computational technique for the manufacturing process planning in laser cutting robotic systems. It focuses on the optimisation of robot motions for continuous contour tracking using the redundancy caused by the tool axial symmetry. In contrast to previous works, the developed technique is based on the dynamic programming and explicitly incorporates verification of the ...

Process Planning for Shape Deposition Manufacturing

Solid Freeform Fabrication (SFF) refers to a class of rapid manufacturing process that builds parts by incremental material deposition and fusion of thin 2-1/2 dimensional layers. Over this past decade, SFF has taken the manufacturing industry to new heights. However, parts produced by SFF processes exhibit a stair-step surface texture due to the presence of 2-1/2 dimensional layers and exhibit...

An Overview of Additive Manufacturing of Titanium Components by Directed Energy Deposition: Microstructure and Mechanical Properties

The directed energy deposition (DED) process can be employed to build net shape components or prototypes starting from powder or wires, through a layer-by-layer process. This process provides an opportunity to fabricate complex shaped and functionally graded parts that can be utilized in different engineering applications. DED uses a laser as a focused heat source to melt the in-situ delivered ...
